The recognition by the Department of Health (DH) of the centrality of housing and support to the social care agenda has resulted in a number of cross cutting funding initiatives and sources such as the Extra Care Capital Fund, equipment and adaptations, Home Improvement Agencies, and telecare/assistive technology.
We are increasingly being commissioned jointly by housing, social care, Supporting People, and often by health, to assess need and develop strategies and commissioning plans that provide an integrated approach. This applies across different subject areas such as older people, mental health and learning and physical disability, and sensory impairment. It also applies increasingly to socially excluded groups as Supporting People brings a more connected approach to addressing the needs of groups in these areas.
We also receive direct commissions from adult social care departments to support funding bids, for example POPPs bids and extra care funding bids to DH, to undertake service reviews and to write commissioning plans.
