NE IEP – Local Area Co-ordination in Darlington

PFA in conjunction with BV Hudson Consulting have been commissioned by the North East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership to undertake a high level Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) for developing Local Area Co-ordination (LAC) or related neighbourhood based model of support in Darlington.

Local Area Coordination is an innovative approach to supporting people who are vulnerable through frailty, disability or mental health issues to get a good life and to strengthen the capacity of communities to welcome and include people. The LAC vision is that all people live in welcoming communities that provide friendship, mutual support and positive opportunities for everyone, including people with disabilities, their families and carers.

This work will produce an evidence base on the scope for developing neighbourhood-based models of support in Darlington that focus on prevention, choice and control, citizenship and creating social capital.

LAC fits closely with the implementation of Putting People First through:
·       Helping people to opt for self-directed support and a personal budget
·       Helping people to draw up a support plan
·       Helping people to find support within their own communities
·       Helping people to live life in their own community
